The first image that comes to mind when one talks of childhood is of carefree, happy and sometimes mischievous kid who lives in an idealistic and innocent world. It is true for most of the people as we all seem to have more or less the same childhood. Hence Berne calls such an ego of individual who has had a normal childhood as Natural Child.

Transaction analysis mainly aims to help with the relationships and communication. When it comes to developing relationship which are sexual in nature, it is difficult to determine which ego state should take over. The three states described by Berne: Child, Adult and Parent, all seem to be inadequate.

Child ego is a state when people behave, feel and think in the same way as they did in their childhood. For example, one may react to a poor evaluation at work by pouting, crying or making faces or simply staring at the floor like he did when he was scolded as a child.

One of the most important states of the ego as illustrated by Eric Berne is the Child ego state. It is much like Freud’s id in principle but as Bernie deals with the subject of transaction analysis so his definition of ego states is more socio-cognitive than individualistic or subconscious in nature.

Transaction analysis is a theory presented by Eric Berne to help people to improve their interaction or communication which he calls transactions. It aims to improve the transactions by providing an insight into the personality structure of every individual which Berne has explained through his ‘Parent-Adult-Child’ model (PAC).

Creativity is one word that somehow associated with children. It is also considered an important feature of Child ego as explained by Berne in his theory of transaction analysis. It is present in every Child may it be Natural or Adapted, as children are not only have unrestrained imagination but also are more easily inspired and less logical in their thinking.
