Dealing with Complexity in a System

In the modern world, organizations have adopted complicated systems in their operations to provide them with the much needed information for effective policy formulation and implementation. There has been growing

concern about the approaches organizations are using to derive the information from its operations and the difficulty has increased thereby increasing the risk of producing distorted information that could disastrously lead to ineffective policy formulation.

Dealing with complexity in a system can be an uphill task if the organization does not take a proactive measure to reduce the intricacy. A complex system is an arrangement of heterogeneous components that don’t associate linearly which result in unwanted or unpleasing information output.

Reduction of system complexity needs to be actively explored and utilized by management so as achieve desired organizational goals and objectives. Several approaches can be explored in bringing about sanity in the information collection endeavors. They are:

Utilization of employees that work multifunctionally:

This is guaranteed to generate sufficient information about the different departments they would have worked in.

Decision making coordination:

This is effective since all decisions made are harmonized and their impact measured against set parameters.

Systems can now be reviewed using computer software and online solutions are available for any organization to explore.

Communication:

For any organization to have an effective information collection system, employees must be made aware so that they feel part of the organizations. Other ways to reduce system complexity would be system re-engineering, and promote workable supervisory interaction in the organization. Customer relationships that are nurtured through trust and need satisfaction is also important restoring a workable and effective system that provides information through product/service reviews.

Increase in system complexity is attributed to ineffective setting up of components that gather information in a given organization and using discriminatory analysis of the collected information. Management should therefore embark on having effective systems for information collection which provides the much need platform for policy formulation, evaluation and subsequent execution.
